A lot can happen in 1 year.

We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary of moving into our home on Graham Lane! I can’t believe how quickly 1 year has flown by. This is a long story but I’ll try and keep it short ish.

We were originally supposed to move in on October 15 but our closing date ended up being the 31st. We had our new homeowners moving into our old home and we had to get out of there. I was in a panic and Daniel was already in Morocco. I knew that he would be in Morocco during the move, I had no idea that I would be moving two weeks later than planned.

Thankfully I had my mom here from Canada to help with the kids while I ran around like a chicken with it’s head chopped off. To remind you Kingston was only 6-7 months at the time. And my friend Evan who had literally just moved into her new house, welcomed us with open arms and we stayed with her and her 2 month old baby girl Maya until our closing date.

Day before I took my dogs to the kennel. And on moving day, we had a moving company take all of our stuff into storage and we brought everything that we needed to take to Evans house. I sent my mom there with the kids so I could focus. I had already been slowly packing, purging and organizing for weeks, so when the movers arrived they were quick. They made my OCD calm by having an incredible system of labeling and noting every single item they took with them. Although the actual heavy lifting was taken care of there is so many things that come up on the day of. I had to unhook the fridge, unhook the washer and dryer. I never even thought about things like our BBQ and outdoor furniture, of course every thing has to be moved.

After several hours of moving I am left in an empty house. Bare walls, bare rooms, and all these memories flooding into my head. Zola took her first steps in this house. We brought Kingston home from the hospital here. It was very surreal to be leaving. But I knew it was for the better to be moving into a new house with more space for us to grow. We had already outgrown our old house.

We moved in temporarily into Evans house for two weeks. She was such a gracious host and really the best friend I could ask for. (Hope you’re reading this Ev) Not only did she take us all in, but she did so last minute and even had my sister Tiff come as well since she already had flights booked to come visit. We had a lot of fun, a lot of take out food, and the best home cooked meals thanks to Mama Tran.

Flash forward two weeks, we moved in on Halloween. With an air mattress in the master bedroom and a bowl of candy to hand out, we went trick or treating and even met new friends at the second house we visited that joined us in walking around the neighborhood. We felt instantly welcomed on our street and met a ton of people on our first night here.

This post was to reflect back on where we were when we first moved in. And the next post I blog about will be where we are right now. I will post another blog of before and after our move in with pictures I promise!
